Why learn to play the piano?
Active Learning
1. Relieve Stress....playing and learning is a great way to relieve stress. Sitting down to play takes you to your own world of learning, achievement, escapism and performance. It is “your time” for the day and your achievements are entirely personal.
2. Aspire to play your favourite tunes...you would be surprised how quickly this can be achieved with expert tuition and guidance...then wow!! What a sense of achievement you will have.
3. Learning keeps the brain young .... the multi tasking needed to read and interpret the music onto those keys should not be underestimated. In addition memorising your work also keeps the brain alert and develops cognitive function. You also learn a new vocabulary (mainly Italian) in order to understand performance directions in music.
4. Playing can be very creative- interpreting pieces is a great skill acquired during the learning process. You may also feel that you want to improvise your own pieces and develop that side of your creativity.
5. Children who learn to play an instrument gain from all of the above but in addition learning to play and the self development achieved in their own practise time develops better attention span. There are also links to maths performance as the same part of the brain used for performing on an instrument is the same part of the brain used for numerical exercises and problem solving.
